NJ Guide - Monmouth/Ocean CountyJuly 30, 2003

Welcome to Monmouth County and Ocean County, areas characterized by friendly suburban neighborhoods, rolling farmland and a wealth of bays, rivers and inlets that provide picturesque views and summer sports. These are areas modern in growth yet historic in nature, with connections to simpler times.

In Monmouth and Ocean counties, one can find an array of supermarkets and shopping centers, yet still attend church in a building erected in the 1700s, own a Colonial-era home or visit Monmouth Battlefield, where Gen. George Washington fought the British.

Settled in the 1600s, the area became known for its easily accessible waterways and rich soil. Today many farms remain but are set against a backdrop of modern development. The result is diverse communities with top-rated school systems. Here one can still buy vegetables at a roadside stand, pick bushels of apples in the fall or take a walk along the beach all year round.

This is the area covered by the News Transcript, the Examiner and the Tri-Town News, including the towns of Colts Neck, Englishtown, Freehold Borough, Freehold Township, Howell, Manalapan, Marlboro, Millstone, Upper Freehold, Roosevelt, Allentown, Jackson, Lakewood and Plumsted.

In Monmouth and Ocean counties, there is truly something for everyone, from the thriving downtown of Freehold Borough to the horse farms of Colts Neck and Upper Freehold. Perhaps this is why so many people choose to call the area home.
