Upper Freehold

Kara Moyer gets some assistance with her helmet from Jill Wall while preparing for a competition at the Horse Park of New Jersey in Upper Freehold.

Upper Freehold remains one of the last truly rural townships in Monmouth County, where some residents still make a living from the land at the township’s many horse farms, nurseries and crop farms.

In addition to valuing the rolling countryside of the farms, the community is dedicated to the preservation of open space and has committed a portion of its tax dollars to acquiring property.

In addition to the space the community would like to preserve in the future, the township already has its share of preserved places.

The Horse Park of New Jersey, as well as more than 2,000 acres of the state Assunpink Wildlife Preserve, lie within Upper Freehold’s borders.

The historic village of Imlaystown, with its restored dam and spillway, can be found at the center of town, along the picturesque Imlaystown Lake.

The restored Walnford House and mill in Walnford Village are also open for the public to enjoy.
