Marlboro, named for its deposits of the natural fertilizer marl, is located on the border of Middlesex County. Settled in 1685 and incorporated in 1848, Marlboro grew from a farming town to a residential community.
The township offers a series of free summer concerts at the municipal complex and a wide array of recreational programs.
An early-childhood learning center opened last year, and a second middle school, which is named Marlboro Memorial Middle School in honor of victims of Sept. 11, opened in January 2003.
