Freehold Borough

Lisestrella Romero and Kevin Manazano perform La Negra, a Mexican dance, during a Cinco de Mayo celebration at the Head Start program in Freehold Borough.

The county seat is a historic town with tree-lined streets and large Victorian houses. The home of the Monmouth County Courthouse, built in 1715, Freehold has retained its historic character as exemplified by the Monmouth County Historical Association Museum, the Covenhoven House, St. Peter's Episcopal Church and the Monmouth County Hall of Records. The downtown area boasts antique and specialty shops as well as restaurants renowned for their cuisine and outdoor dining. The popular Kruise Nites and free concerts attract large crowds from late spring to early fall.
