Best known for its Colonial history, Englishtown is a small borough
surrounded by the township of Manalapan. It is here that Washington set up his
headquarters for the Battle of Monmouth in 1778 during the Revolutionary War.
Later in the 19th century, Englishtown became a center for farm produce.
Main Street features a variety of independent businesses and is most
well-known for the historic Village Inn. Sanford Park provides residents with a
popular recreational site and, along with Main Street, is the focal point for
the town's annual fall festival. Lake Weamaconk is another picturesque
recreational site in town.
Recent years have seen an influx of residential development and an assisted
living facility.
