Monmouth County

British forces fire upon Continental troops as the Battle of Monmouth is fought once more, at the Monmouth Battlefield, for the 225th anniversary.

Monmouth County is rich in history and cultural heritage. Settled in the 1600s, the area became known for its easily accessible waterways and fertile farmland. Today you can still go from the seashore to horse breeding and produce farms in Monmouth's rustic setting.

There are 53 municipalities in the highly desirable area dotted with shore resorts, parks, cultural sites and horse racing tracks. The county is home to the oldest continuously operating lighthouse in the nation on Sandy Hook, and the site of a pivotal battle of the Revolutionary War, in what is today Manalapan and Freehold townships. Freehold Borough was established as the county seat in 1719, and today is seeing a rebirth of its historic downtown area. Open lands continue to be preserved in Monmouth, and recreation thrives.

The pace of living can be energetic or relaxing. Monmouth County truly is a unique place to call home.

Bill Lawson waits patiently for a bite while fishing at one of Monmouth County's prime waterfront locations.
